The 2009 WSOP Main Event where one lucky poker player will score over $8M is already down from over 6K in players to only 185. Yesterday’s Day 5 allowed for much action, television crews were probably far more busy that they have been.

Although the leader board has completely changed from the previous day, many of pokers popular players have managed to remain exactly where they started, while some of the other had an eventful up and down battle.

The new leader is Warren Zackey with almost 5M in chips and right on his trail is Kasper Cordes with over 4.3M in chips. Neither Zackey or Cordes have any WSOP or circuit tournaments under their belt.

Day 4’s leaders Matt Affleck and Ludovic Lacay have gone down in the standings but have somehow manged to stay near the top. Starting today, Affleck holds 2.8M+ in 7th position (where Jordan Morgan was yesterday) and Lacay stands with 1.8M+ in 24th position.

One of Day 4’s Leaders was Tom Lutz, but busted out on one huge hand toward the end of the day. Tom Lutz held AQ clubs against Warren Zackey’s pocket 10’s. The flop came out: 9c 6c 3d, after rounds of betting and raising, Lutz put all his chips in the middle on a possible nut flush, only to receive no help as and 8d turned and a 5s rivered. This is where Warren Zackey’s chips went to 3.95M. A 4M hand, wow!

Lou Diamond Phillips, who has played a great tournament, was eliminated in one of the last hands hands played last night. He started the day with 607K and towards the end of the day he was hanging on, but a devastating hand up against two, that’s two sets of A’s to his K’s proved to be deadly. That’s crazy cards, Phillips out and the two holding the A’s split the pot. Others out today were Amir Lehavot (our day 1 chip leader) and Dan Harrington.

Tripling and doubling up for the day went to a few players. Joe Sebok nearly doubled from 502K to 992K. Antonio Esfandiari, Peter Eastgate and JC Tran played well enough triple up throughout the day. Esfandiari began today with 496K, finished up with over 1.2M in chips. Eastgate started the day with 397K, finished holding 927K. JC Tran had a day that lead him up and down, but now he sits up from yesterday (163K) with 720K.

There were four players who must have like where they were, because they barely moved an inch chip wise. Joe Serock started with 700K, finished with 760K. Jordan Morgan began with 1.4M, slightly down to 1.2M+ and Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier also started with 1.4M is slightly down 973K. However Phil Ivey, who began the day with 1.2M is just above with 1.3M+.

Day 5 was full of much excitement and the real excitement is just going to begin as players inch closer and closer to the $8M grand prize. There may be some surprising leaders, but can the pros hang in there and reveal their skill or will this years bracelet go to a random Joe?
