In regards to the recent freeze on some $30 Million Dollars of 27,000 online poker players money this week, the European Commission has spoken and they are fired up. They claim that freezing these accounts violates global trade regulations and are pushing for the US to reconfigure their views on Internet Gambling.

Representative Barney Frank’s proposed legislation to legalize online gambling is getting more exposure now that these actions have taken place. Jeffery Sandman, a spokesman for the pro-gambling safe and secure Internet Gambling initiative believes this just another reason for this bill to pass. “These resent freezes are in direct violation of global trade agreements. Creating more opposition between America and the rest of the world is the last thing we need.”

Frank’s legislation is firm on protecting consumers. By clearly revamping the online gambling industry to protect against illegal acts such as money laundering and underage gambling, and creates safeguards for players against identity theft and fraud, along with compulsive gambling.

Most of the companies involved are based in other countries. Headquarters are in United Kingdom, call centers in Costa Rica, and Antigua handles the financial transactions. The players however are mostly from the US and that is where the legality issues come in.

For now, the world is resting their gambling hopes on Barney Frank’s Legislation, praying for a resolution, perhaps one that will resolve some of the mess right now and ultimately protect the multi-billion dollar industry we know and love.
