National Poker Week is quickly approaching and the PPA has something special lined up. During the week of July 19th-25th, 2009, Over 30 of the PPA’s Directors and several professional poker players will put their mark on Washington’s door. Their goal is to meet with members of Congress and share with them the importance of passing Barney Frank’s bill, H.R 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009.

Many people are familiar with this ongoing battle, especially poker lovers. A game that is America’s past time is under attack right now as you read. Just two weeks ago, online poker funds were frozen, shocking online players and poker rooms alike. It is Senator Alfonse D’Amato mission during poker week to send a clear message that poker is important to American voters and is here to stay.

Professional Poker player Howard Lederer, who is also known as “The Professor, has been playing the game since the early 80’s, before online poker was ever around. Through his last 30 years of play, Lederer is said to be an amazing family man, and somewhat of a teacher to those who want to learn the game of poker. “Restricting what people do in the privacy of their own home is a slippery slope, which is why during poker week, I will let my members of Congress know, I want my rights protected.” exclaimed Lederer.

In addition to rallying for fair poker rights, the Poker Players Alliance will be joined by a few technology providers to show their demo on how they can regulate poker, through age verification and ensure fairness of play, among many other things.

If poker players around the country would like to be apart of this movement, a website called MyPokerStory.com has been created by the PPA, where real players can share real stories about what poker does for them and why keeping poker legal is so important. The PPA plans to use this program to present to lawmakers in efforts to show what real Americans feel about the game.
