For 5 years now, Rep. Barney Frank and his supporters have been trying to overturn the UIGEA bill. This bill made it illegal for banks and credit card companies to transfer funds to online gaming companies, therefore making online gambling even more of a risk. Yesterday marked a breakthrough in the online gambling world for US players and the groups trying to make things happen.

The next journey for Rep. Frank, who has been aggressively working to overturn this law, is to bring the recently approved legislation to the House Democratic Leadership. Inside the House Financial Services Committee, the legislation was voted 41-22 in support of legalizing online gaming within the USA. This would allow US players to gamble online and operators to offer gambling online without fear of prosecution.

One thing remains certain, any current violators of the UIGEA bill will face major difficulties in acquiring licences, if the ability to acquire one at all, to do business here in the US. Some of the largest online gaming sites are still accepting US players and ignoring US laws.

If you play on sites such as PokerStars.com and Fulltiltpoker.com, you may be playing with fire. Although these companies operate outside of the US, by still allowing US players to use their sites will not only directly affect their business, but the players as well. On a good note, many of Las Vegas Casinos that have steered clear, staying in compliance with the US government, are just sitting, watching, and waiting for the moment they can break on through to the online world.

Other than the current violators of the bill are major concerns regarding taxing, minors, and addiction. The taxing of online gaming sites can result in billions over the next 10 years. How will be able to detect minors gambling online? And more importantly, what state will become of families if addiction takes hold?

These questions any many more have been raised by Rep. Spencer Bachus of Alabama, stating “It’s incredulous that we would open up casinos in every home, every bedroom, every dorm room, IPhone, Blackberry, etc.” The truth is, it is already this way, putting this in the hands of a regulation will greatly benefit us all. US based companies can be regularly monitored and taxed much easier on American soil.

Wednesdays victory still comes with ties. Even though the bill is before the house, it will likely be be added into another bill in order to be passed.

Many came and went. The cards were dealt. Hands were won. Many perished. Over 4,600 players perished and last night, November 9th, 2009, only two remained, Darvin Moon and Joseph Cada. The two players had certainly earned their rights to be there. They both played outstanding poker to get this point.

Only one could rise up and become one of the immortal Main Event Champions. At approximately 1:30am, one stood, Joseph Cada. Joseph Cada is only 21 and now a millionaire, taking home an incredible $8,546,435.00 for finishing First Place in this years 2009 WSOP Texas Hold’em Main Event.

This particular head’s up play was intriguing for both the spectators and the players. The two players were said to be wary of each other, knowing their styles over the last few months of play. Spectators were interested in the everyday man, Darvin Moon, who had never played in a Main Event before, yet was the chip leader for almost the entire event. Spectators were also mesmerized by the young stud, who only 21, played with such confidence and composure and too, was his first Main Event.

Moon started the night down to only 58M compared to Cada’s 135M, but in a few first hands, Moon had caught up and somehow leveled the playing field between the two. They rallied for about 3 hours, back and forth giving away the chip lead, but it all came down to one hand.

They finally went all-in for the last time, Cada holding a pair of 9’s and Moon with QJ suited Diamonds. Cada had the chip lead by 50M, so if Moon was to hit, Cada would still be in. The board provided absolutely no help to Moon, not matching either of his over cards or even a single diamond, simply throwing down two 7’s to make Cada’s hand even better. Joseph Cada had won, Moon an incredible run and still walked away with $5,182,928.00.

Joseph Cada is the youngest Main Event bracelet winner and the way he played his tournament many speculate this will not be his last. He started this final table with 13M, quickly was forced to less than 3M, and somehow came back to win it all. A truly remarkable story and impressive play by all November Nine players. Congratulations to Joseph Cada, 2009 WSOP Main Event Winner.

The heart of almost every type of poker player was represented at this years WSOP final table. Although it took 123 days to get to the final table, the last two were decided in merely 17.5 hours.

There were 6,494 players that came to battle, but only two remain, Darvin Moon, chip leader for most of the tournament, and Joseph Cada, potentially the youngest player to ever win a WSOP bracelet. Last night when the day ended play, Moon sat the underdog for the first time with only $58,850,000 (which is where he started the day) and Cada holding an impressive and commanding lead with 135,950,000.

What happened to the other 7 final table players? The day started with taking 6 hands before anyone finally saw a flop, once the ice had broken, it play as usual. Many surprising pushes of all-ins, but it was James Akenhead who was the first casualty being eliminated in 9th place and quickly following was, Kevin Schaffel in 8th.

For the next few hours it seemed like the Phil Ivey show, with him chipping up on nearly almost hand, but as quickly as it came, it went and Ivey was eliminated in 7th place. Following the fan favorite was Steve Begleiter, who started with a nice stack this tournament, but he was out in the 6th place. Moon was taking some beats loosing same of his stack, Cada was getting stronger, and Saout seemed to moving along too, taking out Jeff Shulman in 5th place.

The four left, Antoine Saout (88M), Darvin Moon (54M), Joseph Cada (42M), and Eric Buchman (9M) came after the largest pot of the tournament, when Saout destroyed Buchman, leaving him with little to work with. This then ending his tournament dreams a few hands later, Buchman out in 4th place.

Saout holding the lead going into a break, but when things came back, there was no holding back, Cada and Saout were ready to battle it out, while Moon sat quietly back, thankful that he was out of the hand and hoping just one more may be eliminated. However, Cada only doubled and Saout was left crippled and defeated. So defeated, he ended up being knocked by the young stud a few hands later, leaving in 3rd place.

Which bring us to the final two, Moon and Cada. Who will prevail? Today, they will break, but then resume on Monday night, November 9th, 2009. Will the young gun stand up against the tournament long chip leader? Or perhaps Moon will regain strength and teach this boy a lesson? We will see as they play for $8,546,435!

Online Casino Reviews reported earlier last month that The Poker Players Alliance had every intention of making Washington part of “The National Poker Week”. The time has come and The Poker Players Alliance is in Washington and has already scheduled almost 100 meetings with members of Congress and their aides.

One of their main goals this week, is to present President Barack Obama with a petition tomorrow with over 350,000 signatures on it in support of Barney Frank’s Bill. Not only will the PPA be there showing support, but famous Professional poker Players such as, Annie Duke, Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch, and Greg Raymer will be there supporting their beloved profession.

Tonight, the PPA is holding a Charity Poker tournament with proceeds going to the USO and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. This past Monday, the players hosted a congressional staff briefing, showing how online poker can be regulated to over 20 offices that attended the meetings. Along with presenting regulation, they also had a demonstration from WiredSafty.org to show the effective ways to keep minors off the gambling websites.

The Christian Coalition of America is still very active in expressing that they are against online gaming. They feel it will break up the family, therefore create more bad than good. The PPA and Rep. Barney Frank beg to differ with the CCA and will continue in their efforts to present the President with petition “Poker is Not a Crime”. Online gaming is a billion dollar industry in which is can not be ignored much longer.

It was reported that Full Tilt Poker was trying to set a new record for the largest online tournament this weekend, however their attempts were unsuccessful. They did however manage to rack up 50,000 players, but their competitor, Poker Stars, smashed them by having a similar tournament and having 65,000 players playing in it.

How did Poker Stars do it? They offered a very similar tournament for a fraction of the cost, not to mention they clearly have a larger player pool than Full Tilt Poker. Also, Full Tilt Poker put a cap on their tournament at 50,000. Now if you are trying to break records, why would you put a cap?

On any note, online poker players really are the one breaking records here. For mere dollars, lucky winners are walking away with giant prizes. Full Tilt Poker’s tournament held a prize pool of $500K, while Poker Stars tournament offered up a total prize pool of $130K. The winner of the Full Tilt Poker “The Record Breaker” tournament will walk away with $45,000.00, risking only $5.00.

This will only be a beginning to the battle of the who can create the larger tournament, as speculations see Full Tilt Poker trying this once again, but with a much smaller buy-in. The great thing about these type of battles, the online players are the ones benefiting the most.

In the wee hours of the morning, the coveted spots that will fill the Final Table of the 2009 WSOP Texas Hold’em Main Event Tournament, were determined. This Final Table is otherwise known as the November Nine and reported by some as the most talented Main Event Table in years. Here are the Final Nine, who made it through over 10 days of grueling poker and through 6,485 other poker hopefuls.

Darvin Moon: who’s play has been remarkable over the last three days, being the chip leader at the end of each day. For the next four months he will reign as the Main Event chip leader with 58,930,000 chips. This is 24M more than the 2nd position chip holder.

Eric Buchman: NY born, and in 1980 no less, has been playing in Circuit and WSOP tournaments since 2003 and has placed in the money 18 times. His latest place was in this years Event #25 - $2500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud HL/8 or Better Tournament, where he finished 6th. Buchman, started yesterdays play with about 10M in chips and made it turn into the 2nd position chip lead, with 34,800,000 in chips.

Steven Begleiter: started yesterday nicely with 11.8M+ in chips and climbed early, then took a beating in one hand with Ben Lamb. Begleiter stayed focused and regained his momentum and let’s just say, Begleiter is here and Lamb is not. Steven finished yesterday with 29,885,000 in chips.

Jeff Shulman: Shulman is no stranger to entering WSOP tournaments. Shulman has been in 15 WSOP tournaments dating back to 2000, where he finished 3rd in a charity event. His most recent place was back in 2007, in Event#25-$2K NL Hold’em, where he finished 69th. Jeff started yesterday with 10.1M+ in chips and he too had a huge chunk of his stack taken in the middle of the day from Joe Cada, but continued to chip up throughout the day, ending it with 19,580,000.

Joseph Cada: Is this kid even old enough to play? This is Joseph’s first year playing in the WSOP tournaments, but this probably will not be his last. This year alone he placed in the cash in two events. In Event#34-$1500 NL Hold’em, Cada finished 17th. He started yesterday with 6.5M+ and had a very busy day doubling to finish with 13,215,000. Very Nice.

Kevin Schaffel: Coral Springs, Fl., which is west of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Rumored to be quite the golfer, but today and through the tournament has had the swing of things. Schaffel, attempted last years Main Event and finished in the money at 324th place, but has been apart of many circuit and other WSOP events in past years. Schaffel started yesterday with an impressive 11.2M+, late in the day Billy Kopp tried to bully Schaffel, but Schaffel outlasted Kopp and finished with 12,390,000.

Phil Ivey: What can’t we say about this guy? Seven Bracelets, 38 circuit and WSOP cashes. One of the most recognizable poker players and over all like-able guys. Ivey, worked his tail off through this tournament and some how always manged to stay right in the middle of the pack. It will be interesting to see if this PRO can rise to the occasion in November. Ivey started yesterday with 11.3M+ and finished down, but at the Final Table with 9,765,000.

Antoine Saout: started the yesterday with 11.1M+. Saout continued to finish strong in the last few days of play. Although he is down at the end of Day 8, do not say he is out. He tournament thus far is impressive and he rests in the 8th spot with 9,500,000.

James Akenhead: The bloke was late yesterday morning, but perhaps that extra few minutes of beauty rest proved to be something magical. Akenhead appeared in two WSOP events last year, Event#2-$1500 NL Hold’em, he finished 2nd to Grant Hinkle. Akenhead started yesterday in middle pack, but against all odds and a crazy day of play managed to hang on with only 6,800,000 in chips, which happens to be 52,000,000 less than the chip leader.

Yesterday was one of the happiest days for all of these remarkable poker players. Some new to the WSOP and some established players, but all remarkable. Out of the 27 that started yesterday, a few that perished were Antonio Esfandiari, Billy Kopp, and Leo Margets. Esfandiari, great player. Kopp, excellent tournament, but burn out at the end. Leo Margets, 27th place and quite a lady.

The 2009 WSOP Main Event will resume in November, with dates through the 7th-10th. Will Moon see stars? Will Ivey finally get the Main Event Bracelet? Can the Golfer swing into 1st? Or will the boy become a man winning his first bracelet? All the action will be happening this November. See you there!

The 2009 WSOP Main Event Day 8 will begin in less than 3 hours. Remarkably, there are 27 remaining hopefuls out of an impressive 6,494 players. There has been a total of 14 days of play and the excitement of play has been plenty. Each day emerged new chip leaders and some would get knocked down, but find a way to rise again, therefore landing themselves in today’s play.

These final 27 players are all striving to make to the #1 spot. Ahead of them is grueling hours of poker, but they can see a glimmer of light at the end of tunnel and that glimmer of light looks like a WSOP Bracelet and over $8M dollars in prize money.

Although many were so close yesterday’s play proved to lose players rather quickly. Among the ones to parish were Tom “DonkeyBomber” Schneider, who was 2007 Player of the Year. Joining Schneider on the rail was Dennis Phillips, who was one of last years November Nine and Poker Road CEO, Joe Sebok.

Table 2 seats Darvin Moon. Moon has managed to hold the chip lead two days in a row and holds a commanding 20.1M+ in chips. Moon received many gifts from the poker gods yesterday. Will they continue to be generous throughout today? Seated at Darvin Moons Table today is Phil Ivey. Phil Ivey has worked extremely hard throughout this tournament. He has been up and down, but as of this morning, Phil will start the day with 11.3M+ in chips.

Table 1 seems to look like the lower stack table, which may be a good thing for Leo Margets, the last female standing in this tournament. She is playing a fine tournament and if anyone sees that light, it would be her. She is down from yesterday and holds 1.5M and a prayer. The chip leader at this table is Eric Buchman with 10M+.

Table 3 may hold the most excitement yet. Players such as Bill Kopp who is 2nd in the chip count with 15.9M+ and Antoine Saout with 11.1M+. Also seat at this table are Warren Zackey, Day 5 chip leader, has 5.4M+, Ludovic Lacay, Day 4 2nd position chip holder with 5.6M+, and Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari with 4.7M+.

Today is the day the the 2009 November Nine will be announced. Can poker legends like Ivey hang on? Will the last female this year, Leo Margets, make it to the final table? And can Darvin Moon continue to hold on to his amazing graces? The action begin at 12pm PDT.

Online Casino Reviews will be eagerly waiting to report the November Nine. Good Luck to all the remaining players. Whatever the outcome, Online Casino Reviews would like to remark on a tournament well played by all.
